When looking at the genres of cinema, one genre that appears to be popular with having women involved is horror. Usually in horror movies, women are portrayed as being helpless victims that tends to have an unfortunate outcome of being killed in a scene by the antagonist, which usually is a male whether playing a human or non-human character. Lloyd Kaufman who is president and co-founder of infamous schlock-horror production company Troma Entertainment stated that horror is the "most male chauvinistic area in pop culture and there is no lack of talented female directors, but they are faced with a "blood ceiling". In response to this problem there has been a solution in which Women in Horror Recognition Month is a global event that was created in 2010 by Hannah Neurotica (aka Hannah Forman). Her reasons for this was described as women being looked upon as a novelty item in horror and that they should be looked at for their contributions in movies such as artistic and creative abilities, not just as "Scream Queens". It should be more than earning the title "Horror babe of the month, but to be known and respected as writers, directors, producers, artists, musicians, doll makers, and FX artists. Festivals were also made tribute to horror films made by women like the Viscera Film Festival and Bleedfest which are both taking place in the United States. Elisabeth and Brenda Fies, both film-making sisters, who were responsible for the 2009 motion picture, The Commune, were in charge of the Bleedfest festival. Them explain that Bleedfest addresses the problems that female film-makers face which would include them working full time on their movies averaging from 3 to 5 years and that their full-time paying job pay 29 cents an hour less than their male co-workers. They have giving up children and getting married in order to gain money and time it takes to make movies. Being in denial that these women exist, as equal with their male peers, and are doing everything that they can to make it big in hollywood, was said as being "unacceptable".
